Indulge me
My life has a soundtrack.  I'm the sort of person who associates music with people, events, and memories.  It's sort of like having my own personal jukebox in my head.  Whenever I hear a certain song, I can recall the associated memory in vivid detail.  Sometimes, a personality trait will call to mind a song, and when I hear the song again, I'm reminded of the person.

So, I was wondering, are you like this?  Do you catalog your memories musically?  If so, is there a particular song that you associate with a memory of me or with one of my personality traits?  What song is it, and why?

I'm totally like that as well actually. :) It's hard for me not to hear a song and think of a particular person, place, or event that I associate with it.

Hmm, I can't necessarily say there's a particular song that I associate with your personality. However, I absolutely associate Android Lust with you because you're the one that turned me onto them. 'Stained' always vaguely reminds me of you because you showed me the video first and started my love affair.

Gosh, it's so hard for me to associate you with a particular group though because your musical tastes seem to be pretty varied, like my own. I guess if I have to think of someone that I know you like and that just generally makes me think of you, it would be either The Swans (because of that poster) or The Cruxshadows. I'm going to post this on my own journal if you don't mind, it's too like a meme for me to avoid it, hehe.

Of course I don't mind.

I think we all have songs that remind us of one person or another. I associate Runaway Train with my dad's short lived battle with pancreatic cancer. My mother's song will forever be "Raindrops" by BJ Thomas. My oldest daughter's song is "Toot Toot" by Rockin Sidney. It's a Zydeco song and my husband called Sidra Tooter for years. He sang her that song all the time when she was little. So when Sidra got married, that song was the natural choice for the father/daughter dance. Just about anything by Rush reminds me of Paul, but he used to be a musician so a couple of songs he wrote for me remind me of him, too. My youngest daughter is the old TV show nut, so just about any old TV theme song reminds me of her.

For some reason, I always associate you with the darkwave gothy stuff. I have no clue why.

You know, that "Toot Toot" song is associated with my great aunt who we actually call Toot Toot, but pronounced more like Tuh-Tuht. Don't ask me why. :)

Btw, I love the pic of your Amazon, I keep three parrots myself!

Definately. When I think of them, I think of you and Athens. I'd have to say the song Beloved.

Kiss the Rain by Billie Myers, is a HUGE song for me to remind me of Kara. It was our "theme" song if you will, and whenever I hear it, I ALWAYS think of her.

I found this really interesting because I have NEVER remembered like that.

I'm a visual person. I remember every single photo I've shot, years after the fact. I have clients call me up and say "Oh, you know that one with the thing and..." and I know exactly which photo they're talking about. If I've been over to someone's house, I can remember the layout and colors they use. People can say "Oh, I'm thinking about putting this in the brown room." and I'll go "Oh yeah, right above the desk is a great spot!"
The main problem with this is that I can't remember non-visually. I have problems remembering people I've only met once if they look different the next time I see them. This is especially true and annoying around Halloween, because when I meet new people, they're in costume. I once met a girl in four different costumes at four different parties and never knew until she told me.

The other way I remember it touch. I can find a shirt in the dark by how I know it feels, and certain objects (especially from my childhood) I remember exactly how they felt in my hands and against my skin. The annoying part of this is some one-pleasing items can be not-so-nice if I was wearing, eating or carrying them when I experienced something nasty.

Songs and memories go hand in hand in my life. A song or band can remind of anything from a specific event, a person, an era in my life, a place, and so on.

I don't know if I have known you long enough to associate you with a particular song or band. Maybe, Dead Can Dance. ;)
